HIROSHI SUGIMOTO EXHIBIT
San Francisco, California

The exhibit for Hiroshi Sugimoto's photography at the De Young Museum was designed in close collaboration with the artist. The many constraints included that the long, gracefully arcing wall not be fastened to the museum structure at any point, and that it be assembled in an extremely short time. JBSE worked closely with the design team and contractor to develop a practical and highly economical solution made of a series of slightly varying lumber frame assemblies that were pre-fabricated in the contractor's warehouse and trucked to the site for rapid construction in the brief downtime between exhibits.
