A cornerstone of the San Francisco performing arts community, the ODC Theater project joins a new steel, glass and concrete building with a complete remodel and retrofit of the existing adjacent historic theater. Featuring exposed structural steel, new custom wood roof trusses, and a unifying mat foundation, the project is constructed over soil improved by injection grouting. Careful integration of the structural and architectural detailing allowed for the preservation of the idiosyncratic brick walls while raising the roof in the historic theater. Steel braced frames are employed throughout for stout seismic resistance.
