TRINITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH | Berkeley, California

The goal of the Trinity United Methodist Church was to come up with a creative and innovative seismic improvement scheme for their building that would be more economical than a conventional retrofit. Jon Brody Structural Engineers considered a number of possible approaches, then developed the approach that would minimize costly foundation work, shoring, and large structural members, which are the typical big ticket items for structural strengthening. We incorporated our design into the existing church architecture, and presented our scheme clearly and comprehensively, so that accurate cost studies could be performed. The cost estimates confirmed the remarkable economy of the scheme, and in-house structural analysis highlighted its effectiveness.
