Due to a proposed change of use, a full retrofit design was required for this high-rise commercial structure on Market Street in downtown San Francisco. The building was a hybrid of brick and concrete walls, and some partial retrofit work had been performed in the past. Extra effort was required to preserve the historic façade and large, exterior decorative elements. Our retrofit solution utilized special high strength plywood floor diaphragms to keep down costs.
